Laboratory Equipment Refurbishing Process

At Histologyequipment.com, our inventory of histology instruments features many refurbished models. Our team of technicians completes the refurbishment process with a commitment to detail, so you can enjoy a high-performance unit at a manageable cost.

Sourcing Equipment for Refurbishing

We source used equipment from end users and wholesalers for refurbishment. We actively look for leading brands in the industry, like Tanner Scientific®, Lecia®, Thermo® and Sakura®. These manufacturers are recognized for their excellent quality and lend themselves to refurbishment, even when the models are older.

Before committing to a purchase, we ensure every used machine is in good condition for refurbishment.

The Complete Refurbishment Process for Lab Equipment

Once we’ve acquired an instrument+, we can start the refurbishment process. Our in-house technicians are all factory-trained to handle this process, and some of them even offer training from brands like Tanner ®, Sakura® and Leica®. Thanks to their experience and detail-oriented eyes, we can deliver refurbished machines with trusted performance.

1. Inspection, Diagnostics and Cleaning

Inspection, Diagnostics and Cleaning

Our technicians strip every used machine down to its chassis to examine the components. Every instrument has a list of required parts that must be replaced, regardless of condition, but our experts will also assess other components on a case-by-case basis. During this time, our team will also clean every part.

2. Parts Replacement

The parts replacement process will always include the minimum replacement set defined for each instrument. For example, all fans and compressors are replaced on cryostats, and all level sensors are replaced in tissue processors. Based on the initial inspection, our technicians will replace any other parts based on the condition of the part. Quality is key and only perfection is good enough.

3. Aesthetic Restoration

Once a machine is rebuilt with the necessary new components, we can begin aesthetic restoration. We start with minor bodywork, to remove any deep scratches, along with a xylene-resistant paint job to protect the system over time. If we notice other damaged aesthetic pieces, like buttons, we’ll replace these if parts are available. Some instruments arrive in low-use prestige condition and only require the mechanical portion. In these low-use instances, the factory paint is preserved and cleaned.

4. Calibration and Testing

After a machine is refurbished, we check our craftsmanship. Each unit is calibrated and tested. The calibration of laboratory equipment is essential for accuracy, and the testing process ensures a machine can deliver repeatable results.

Testing varies based on the unit being refurbished, and we have uniform testing standards for each type of instrument. For instance, all coverslippers are tested with 1,000 slides, and tissue processors have to run a minimum of seven times. For cryostats, all units must hold their temperature and run full cycles for one week. When our refurbished units pass testing, they’re ready to be sold and shipped. We only ship units that have passed the testing stage to give you the best possible quality.
