About Mercedes Scientific
Mercedes Scientific was started as Mercedes Medical in 1991 in New Hyde Park, Long Island by Noelle Haft and Hank Traynor. Noelle was a seasoned laboratory distribution supply executive and Hank, a Lab Director, and together they had the right mix of industry and scientific knowledge to start a successful new venture. They called it Mercedes Medical due to Hank’s love of all things Mercedes Benz. Noelle likes to think if they had known the business would have grown and succeeded for 30 years they might have put a little more time into that naming decision! But alas the name stuck, mostly that is. In 2019, the decision was made to change the name to Mercedes Scientific to more closely reflect the business model Mercedes was focusing on now and into the future: serving the laboratory, research, and scientific communities.
In 1993, they moved the small business to Florida as Hank was reaching retirement age and wanted to seek some of that famous Florida sun. He enjoyed the move down south so much he quickly sold his shares in the business to Noelle and Rob Haft and officially retired. In 1995, Noelle was joined by Alex Miller, her daughter (now CEO), and Dave Johnson (now VP) followed by Andy Wright (now President) in quick succession. The four of them, along with some great support staff, built the business fairly quickly in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. Troy Barnett (now COO) and Carol Anziano (now Dir. HR) rounded out the executive team in 2005 and 2006. Noelle stepped down from daily management to retire in 2005 and is currently the Chairwoman of the Board. Alex became the CEO at that time and maintains that position today. Mercedes Scientific now has 75 team members and in December 2018 moved into its new 55K sf headquarters and distribution center in Lakewood Ranch’s “Core” project, dedicated to the Life Science industry.
In 2020, Mercedes Scientific acquired industrial chemical supplier SimChem.
